By Jeff Ainsworth.
Softcover, 11x8" horizontal format, 64 glossy pages. 2018.
"Our 46th entry in the Southern Pacific photo chronicle covers Portland OR to Dunsmuir CA.
"Covering similar territory in both SP volume 44 Western Oregon Lines and SP vol 45 Southern Siskiyou Line - Dunsmuir to Grants Pass - many familiar locations with different trains. At Black Butte, larger power mostly 2-10-2s and Cab Forwards although some locals with smaller power on into Klamath Falls - where older Cab Forwards ran the Modoc Line from Klamath Falls southeasterly toward Alturas. Also at Klamath Falls, The Great Northern line shared trackage and engine facilities with SP - The Great Northern and Western Pacific shared the line known as the “Inside Gateway” which ran from Wishram, Washington south to Bieber, Ca. Where Western Pacific took over southward to Keddie, where the line joined Western Pacific’s mainline.
"There is a photo of GN 2012 an N-3 2-8-8-0, SP 4362 Mt-5 4-8-2 and GS-3 4423 4-8-4 both SP engines with two sections of Train No. 20, the eastbound Klamath which operated between San Francisco and Portland, Or."
